  1. I was looking for something to cook at home that would also enable me to keep losing weight. This book did just the trick. It is full of some really yummy recipes that are easy to do. I liked the fact that most can be cooked and prepared in a little time and you don’t have to worry about running around town to find ingrediants. But mostly, I loved the fact that the food doesn’t taste like cardboard! That was an added bonus and one reason this will be a book I will keep around forever. Another good one that’s helped me lose weight–Goodbye, Fatty! Hello, Skinny! How I Lost Weight And Still Ate The Foods I Loved-Without Dieting.

  2. The diet works and seems to target the belly. My wife and I both have lost over 10 lbs. in less than 4 weeks. I’ve lost enough to have to tighten my belt a notch. I can tell she has lost weight too.

The down side is the recipes for the most part are not that simple, and not your everyday ingredients. (Pine nuts at $10 for a half pound? Come on.) You should be able to find a dozen or so recipes that you like and can afford to make. That will do to get you through a couple weeks to lose some weight, and inches. It would be tough to make this a life style diet though.

If you don’t like olives or avocados, can’t eat nuts, or just don’t have time to prepare meals, this may not be for you. As always, save some money and look for a used book.

  3. I don’t know why Amazon appears not to be carrying this cookbook, but I was able to obtain it for a good price from another seller on Amazon. You can also buy it on the flatbellydiet.com website (it’s a little less expensive there and they offer free shipping and 21-day free trial). However you purchase this book, it is well worth the price. The book first explains the basic principles of the Flat Belly Diet (which I can tell you from first hand experience is very effective for targeting belly fat): Eat a MUFA at every meal (you know, monounsaturated fats, like olives, olive oil, dark chocolate, avocado, certain nuts); limit your meals to 400 calories; don’t go more than four hours without eating. That’s it! Obviously there are refinements, and more rules to help you get the most out of the diet, but at heart it is a simple, flexible, diet that works.

That said, the authors give many ideas for how to make this diet even easier (i.e., like how to shop and plan effectively), and a large number of recipes that are pretty straightforward as well as making optimal use of the MUFAs. They recognize the importance of having some variety in your foods as well as the need to keep it relatively simple. I have already tried a few of the recipes (Chicken Piccata and Stuffed Mushrooms). Both were pretty easy to cook, and they really tasted great! I am so glad that I invested in this book! It is worth its weight in dark chocolate!

  4. I bought both the Flat Belly Diet Guide and the Cookbook. Both have been very helpful. I’ve made many meals for myself using this cookbook; the pesto is to die for and very easy to make. Once you get the hang of it, you can figure out other meals as well. I lost 5 lbs my first week — and the only other time I lost that in a week was when I was on a one week Quick Start Program, which is about 800 calories. On the Flat Belly Diet I had 1400 calories, and that’s what I’m still eating. The 2nd week I lost 3 lbs — I’ve only been on this program for 2 1/2 weeks, but have lost 1 3/4″ on my waist. My clothes are fitting much better and I’m never hungry. I’ve always had a yogurt in the afternoon and I still do, however I now add some sunflower seeds and some nutty granola. I also put sunflowers in my cereal, including oatmeal, in homecooked muffins, etc. I love pizza and now I make my own using whole wheat flour, plenty of veggies and lots of sliced black olives in order to get my MUFA’s. It seems I can eat almost anything I want as long as I stay away from sugary foods and add MUFA’s to everything else!! Actually I sometimes have a bowl of ice cream, but I doctor it up — that’s right — sunflower seeds and nuts to the rescue again. I highly recommend these books and this diet!! Thanks Amazon for carrying these items.

  5. I decided to cook every recipe in this book for my new years resolution. So far I have made 40 recipes from this cookbook, and we have loved all but 2. It is a very family friendly cookbook. I have 3 children, 17, 15 and 7, many of the recipes my kids have asked for again! My daughter loves the Pad Thai, this is now a staple in our home. I would recommend this book to anyone with a picky family, they will be surprised. And most important my Belly is flatter : )
